How did margherita pizza get its name?
There’s actually a fantastic story behind this delicious creation. Created in the 1800s in Naples, the most famous pizza maker of the time (Raffaele Esposito), was asked to make something for the Queen consort on her trip to Naples. The result was this now iconic pizza that he named after the queen. There are some doubts around the truth of this story, but one thing is for sure, whoever created it and why is almost irrelevant as it’s such a well loved dish to this day!
