Chocolate is made from roasted cocoa seeds and dates back at least 4000 years! Originally from Latin America, the delicious ingredient was first used as a medicine. The Mayans referred to it as the drink of the gods and the Aztecs thought it to be so valuable that it was used as a currency. When it found its way to Europe sometime in the 1500s, it was a highly sought after food among the rich. In fact, it wasn’t until 1828 when the chocolate press was invented that production became easier and thus the modern age of chocolate was born! Wondering how to make hot chocolate? It’s really easy if you’re using one of our drinking powders! In a small pot, warm some milk with a few tablespoons of the drinking chocolate mixture. Whisk until the drinking chocolate is dissolved and the milk is steaming. And that’s it, so easy and so delicious to enjoy at home.

At Co-Lab Pantry, we stock our three most favourite blends from Mörk. Choose from original, dark milk & river salt, or honey.
How to melt chocolate?
If you’re cooking a chocolate cake recipe, there’s a good chance you’ll need to melt this detectable ingredient down. There are two main ways to do so; in the microwave, or on the stovetop. If you’re melting chocolate in the microwave, begin by breaking it into small pieces and putting in a microwave-safe bowl. Put in your microwave for 30 seconds on high before stirring. Continue to microwave in 20 second intervals until the chocolate has melted. We should warn you that it can cook quickly, so keep a close eye on it so you don’t end up with a burnt mess! If you prefer to try doing this on the stove, you need to again place broken up chocolate in a glass bowl. Select a small saucepan that allows the bowl to sit comfortably on top. Fill the saucepan with cold water and place your bowl of chocolate on top, ensuring that the saucepan doesn’t actually touch the water. Once you’ve got that admin sorted, put your saucepan on the stove and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and place your chocolate bowl on top. The steam will help the chocolate melt slowly.
How to make chocolate mousse?
Perhaps one of the most popular questions when it comes to this magical ingredient, is what is the best recipe for making chocolate mousse. There are surely thousands of different recipes out there for this airy dessert, but let us give you some of our own tips. It all starts with perfectly melted chocolate, so follow our steps above to do this. Next, you add butter and stir it into your mix, before combining with egg yolks. Add some cream into your chocolate mix. In a separate bowl, you’ll need to whisk your egg whites until light and fluffy. Gently fold the whipped whites into your mix before dividing the mousse into serving bowls. Refrigerate overnight so it sets and voila!
